MADD Celebrates Walk Like MADD 2010

On Saturday, June 5th over 300 walkers gathered at Nashville’s Bicentennial Mall to Walk Like MADD. The event is designed to raise awareness of drunk driving and to celebrate the lives of those who were killed or injured by this violent crime. Walk Like MADD 2010 was sponsored by 103 WKDF, Fox 17, Mapco, Sam’s Club, State Farm and Publix Supermarket Charities.

The event in Nashville raised nearly $50,000 to support MADD’s mission and featured two teams raising over $5,000 each. We had a record 35 teams participate in the walk and look forward to growing the event again next year. Alco-Buddy, Middle Tennessee Child Passenger Safety Center, Davidson County Sheriff’s Department SAAFE Kids, Sam’s Club, Draeger Safety, Ollie the Otter and Metro Nashville Police Department all participated in the Health & Safety Zone. State Farm provided a group of outstanding volunteers to make the overall event a success.

Walk Like MADD also celebrated a walk in Knoxville on Saturday, April 24th with over 150 walkers celebrating MADD’s mission. The Knoxville walk was sponsored by WIVK, Fox 43, Mercy Hospital, Erie Insurance and Net-Gain Corporation. The event raised over $10,000 to support MADD.

Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving

Together, we can protect our families from drunk driving. That is why MADD has launched the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. Since the launch of the campaign we are proud to note that there are now 12 states which mandate interlocks for all offenders.

• Support the heroes who keep our roads safe. High-visibility law enforcement catches drunk drivers and discourages others from driving drunk.
  
  
• Require convicted drunk drivers to blow before they go. Ignition interlock devices, or in-car breathalyzers, require all convicted drunk drivers to prove they are sober before the car will start.
  
  
• Turn cars into the cure. Tomorrow's cars will protect each of us, automatically determining whether or not the driver is above the legal limit of .08 and failing to operate if the driver is impaired.
